The Chinese gov shut down the Wuhan wet market in Jan and Feb this year, the market was the source of the current outbreak of the COVid-19 pandemic. Caused by humans eating bats and pangolins.
But it appears wet markets in other parts of China have reopened for business. The only difference now is that security guards try to stop anyone taking pictures.
These wet markets have also reopened across Asia. Wet markets sell live and dead animals, including fish, birds, bats, dogs, pangolins and turtles for human consumption. Wet markets are open shops set up on the street with live animals kept in cages stacked on top of each other. The animals can be slaughtered on the spot for human consumption.
Asian flu in 1957-8 came from wild ducks. 1.1 million people dead.
Bird flu in 1997 from Chinese geese. 455 people dead.
SARS in 2002-3 from bats, 774 people dead.
Bird flu in 2013 from poultry at a live bird market. 610 dead.
COVID- 19 either bats or pangolins. 50,000 people worldwide dead and numbers increasing.
